Attended by the participating athletes and technical representatives, as well as the prominent figures of the sports world, the award ceremony continued with the address of Mr. İlhami İşseven, the President of the Turkish Rowing Federation. Mr. İşseven indicated that they had been widely praised by all the related parties and that this event would give momentum to rowing in Turkey.
Lionel Girard, the FISA (International Rowing Federation) Coastal Rowing Representative and the Chief Director of 4th World Coastal Rowing Championship, emphasized that Istanbul hosted a perfect and most successful event ever held in this disciple. Mr. Girard also told that the championship gained a very colorful festival-like tone due to complementary events along with the races and reached a new standard to be held up as example to other countries. Mr. Lionel Richard finally told that rowing was introduced to tens of thousand citizens of Istanbul who watched the races and attended the complementary events and its benefits would be felt in the forthcoming years.
At the closing ceremony, plaques of appreciation were presented to İBB, Spor A.Ş., and AKB Agency, which ensured the successful execution of the championship. Athletes, the organizing committee, and hundreds of employees have won the approval of the sports environment for having ensured such successful international credentials for Turkey in a period when our candidacy to the Summer Olympic Games is again on the agenda.
At the closing ceremony, plaques were also presented to Roz Savage, the honorary guest of the championship and the only woman in the world who crossed the two great oceans by rowing, as well as to the secondary schools which had been ranked in the oar designing and painting contest.
700 guests closed the championship with a zestful party and returned back to their countries with the hope to meet again in Istanbul the next year.
